Wow. Superpole races in GP1 are LONG! 16 laps in the sun on a viscious
ZX-10R is hard work. Happily all the cycling, including seven laps of the
track last night, is paying off and I was able to ride hard to the end for
fifth in the Superstock class and 14th overall. I went a bit quicker but not
to the extent I hoped or expected given how hard I was trying and how much
the bike was sliding. Never mind, as at Mallory it was great fun to ride
such a fast bike on the limit.
I’ve fitted a new rear tyre and have some more things to try with the set-up
for tomorrow. I’m looking forward it.
The 2008 season was my novice year, and I entered Thundersport’s top class, GP1, on a GSX-R1000 K4. Racing on a shoestring, with no back-up at all and riding the oldest bike on the grid, I scored strong results against fierce competition. These performances earned recognition and praise from commentators, organisers, and rivals alike, culminating in the club’s Rookie Of The Year award.
