He was blown away by the experience and says the track, the Assen TT, is definitely worthy of its title of The Cathedral of Speed.

Gav said: “Just wow. As a first timer here, I was a little sceptical about riding this track. It has developed a reputation and is known as The Cathedral of Speed for a reason…

“I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. The marshals and pit stewards were brilliant. Helping riders, cleaning up spills, and enacting a Code 60/Purple flag system, which I haven’t seen at any other track.”

Gav was very fortunate as the weather held out for him with blue skies and warm weather each day – a lot better than what we were experiencing back home!

His racer was a Street Triple R, and Gav was extremely happy that the bike was problem free all weekend and only needed a little top-up of oil, so he could concentrate on getting his knee down. He added: “The quickshifter was very fun, and the Pirelli SuperCorsa tyres were the perfect rubber for the track conditions.”

So is Gav now a devotee of the track and will he be back next year is the question? He says: “Absolutely, and I strongly suggest you take a look if you’re looking for a track day away from the UK.”

Looks like the site is a good allrounder as he added: “The facilities are excellent for camping in the paddock with free electricity, running water, lighting and shower blocks/toilets. You really can avoid the cost of a hotel here!”
