I was on a ride with four friends a few weeks ago, during which we had a number of interactions with equestrians. When we met up with equestrians on the byways, engines were killed, my packet of Polos came out and the bold horses snaffled them eagerly while the more timid horses took the mints […]

I am having a bit of a debate with a member of my advanced group of riders. I commute into the city most days and in the autumn and winter, during the misty mornings, I have a high-intensity flashing beacon on my Kriega rucksack.

I own a large adventure touring motorcycle that I bought from a franchised dealer and when they saw me, they must have been able to see I am a big lad.

Is it illegal to ride with knobbly tyres across Europe?

08 Mar 2023

An ABR reader, Colin Richardson, asked me if what he was told by a group of Polish riders while riding off road in Portugal was true, namely that they were using road tyres on the trails for fear of being fined, or otherwise harassed, by German police for using knobblies on the autobahn on their […]

Bikers of my vintage will remember the ‘Loud Pipes Save Lives’ patches from the 1980s, more often than not seen sewn onto a denim cut-off jacket.

Do I bring a claim in France or suck up the losses?

22 Dec 2022

I was fairly injured in France last year. The accident facts are quite straightforward; I was on a roundabout when a car cut me up from the inside, then decided to go right (i.e. across me) and scooped me up.
