What do you do when you’ve been pulled by the Fuzz? When are you looking at doing porridge and when can you expect a slapped wrist? Worry no more, Superbike’s very own freelance jailbird Bertie Simmonds, goes into the showers, drops the soap and then gets tooled up to find out the answers.

Courting Disaster
You’ve been pulled. The copper is glaring at you and you’ve got that sick feeling in your stomach. But fear not. There are always ways and means to turn points into pardons. Sometimes. SuperBike finds out when You’ve been pulled over. Don’t panic. Maybe you’re angry, maybe you’re upset, probably nervous too, or a mix […]

Don’t ignore a summons
That’s plain daft. Do ask for expert help. White Dalton are probably the finest firm of biking solicitors in the country and with them on your side you may avoid being bummed by Bubba when you pick up the hairy soap, but as Andrew says, sometimes it can work if you defend yourself: “It can […]

Don’t ride with a dark visor
If he’s pulled you for an illegally smoked visor, the offence is unendorsable, but you can get a fine.

Don’t ride a bike unfit for road use
Your bike must be roadworthy to MoT standard. Defects to tyres, brakes, steering etc, all carry a three point penalty if the cops spot something wrong.

Don’t ride like a bike journalist
We do it to, ahem, examine the capabilities of our test bikes (your honor). You do it and you’ll get nicked

Storm in a Teacup
05 Sep 2006
I was riding my Firestorm back home from a rideout with my mates, just as dusk was falling. I have a smoked visor, with no BS mark on it, but I could see most things. As I came round a bend, I found a grey Fiesta parked half on the pavement, half on the road, […]

Stupid Stunt
23 Sep 2005
I was at an informal bike meet when we noticed a guy on a Honda Africa Twin hoisting wheelies. I didn’t pay him particular attention until he lost it and threw his bike into my bike, which in turn knocked my mate’s bike down causing £2,000 damage to my bike and £3,500 to my mate’s.

Race and Chase
16 Sep 2005
I was riding with a group of friends on sportsbikes in distinctive race leathers when we passed Captain Sensible on a stationary R 1200 GS, with a white helmet and black Gore-Tex, but no dayglo.

Illegal Visor
15 Sep 2005
I have been pulled in broad daylight, for having a dark iridium visor. I wasn’t carrying a spare and the police officer, who couldn’t find anything else to nick me for, told me that he was confiscating my visor as evidence. I’ve now got a summons and I am going to plead guilty. The visor […]

Scameraderie

I rode into London on my FZR1000, when an old boy pulled out on me at the head of a queue of traffic. He apologised, I wasn’t badly hurt, but my bike had a lot of plastics damage.

Speed King
21 May 2005
I am being prosecuted for an accident where I was riding along a major carriageway, when an old dear in a car pulled out on top of me. I do not want to give away too many of my details, because the case is still live and ongoing but I was riding a brightly coloured […]

Sign Of The Times

I was riding my GSX-R 600, which I’d trailered down to Cornwall so I could go out and about on my bike when the rest of my family were doing family stuff.
