ThundersportGB started in 2008 and raised the bar for club racing in the UK.
Unrivalled quality of organisation, extensive track time, and a very high standard of racing marks this series out from others. Full television coverage ensures that this is a prime showcase for riders, sponsors, and bikes.
The Streetfighter class was a big hit. It was conceived to give spectators something different to watch other than fully-faired sportsbikes, with lower costs too. It certainly achieved that and along the way it delivered some of the most entertaining racing of the year, making it essential viewing for fans and an ideal target for sponsorship. Its popularity is set to increase further in 2009.
The 2008 season was my novice year, and I entered Thundersport’s top class, GP1, on a GSX-R1000 K4. Racing on a shoestring, with no back-up at all and riding the oldest bike on the grid, I scored strong results against fierce competition. These performances earned recognition and praise from commentators, organisers, and rivals alike, culminating in the club’s Rookie Of The Year award.
