Mallory – last race

I won the last Streetfighter race by 20 seconds, enjoying riding hard for
the hell of it.
Between us we took the decision not to go out for the last GP1 race. My rear
tyre is finished so I’d be off the pace and at risk of getting lapped by the
leaders who will be fighting for the championship. There’s nothing to be
gained and Rob’s road bike, amongst other things, at risk.
This has been a fantastic weekend and a perfect way to end the season.

Snetterton race 2

Despite having the Best First Lap Of All Time, I finished 5th in class and
9th overall. That’s ok, especially as it would take a hell of a lot to get
near the top four Superstock bikes, but I’m a bit disappointed in my best
lap time.
At the start I got away cleanly and then laughed out loud in turn two as
almost everyone in front of me outbraked themselves and ran wide. I tucked
it in tight and emerged in fourth. Then I passed championship leader Ian
Mackman around the outside and was into third as light rain started to fall.
I knew that was probably too good to last but kept my head down and pushed
hard.
I lost a few places and then started to have a problem changing down the
gears, which turned out to be a bent shift rod. A missed gear cost me
another place but I managed to get it back by going around the outside in
Coram’s and luckily managed to get down into second gear for the last corner
and good drive to the line.
I’m making a new shift rod now. The plan for the last race is simple. Go
faster.

Cadwell Park, rd4

I won’t be at Cadwell this weekend as I’m using it as my drop round. This
year each class goes to 10 out of 11 events, but only nine count for the
championship. If you have more cash than Man City then you could do all 10
and drop your worst score but the original idea from Thundersport is to let
people drop a round that’s furthest away or clashes with a family wedding
etc. Cadwell Park is one of the furthest from Bath and it’s deadline week at
work again meaning more painfully long hours, plus it’s a bank holiday so
‘the missus’ would be at home for three days and probably baking non-stop. I
love da cake as much as anyone but there’s only so many tachycardia-inducing
sugar rushes a guy can take.
The following round at Mallory is the one that my class misses, so I’m next
out at Snetterton 15-17 July.

Mallory race four

Race weekends don’t get much better than this. I won the last race by 11 seconds, setting a new lap record of 55.0s along the way.
That completes the set of all four race wins, all four fastest laps, pole position, the lap record and the championship. I was never headed for even an inch in any race – each one was flag to flag. The bike was superb all weekend.
Thanks again to all my sponsors, Sam for doing the pitboard, Steph for feeding me and to all my friends for sending messages. The drive home will feel good.
