Fog City Insert – has my one died too quickly?

I have ridden into London and up to Birmingham in foggy, drizzly weather, with the Fog City inner visor in my Shoei Qwest and I was surprised that I was getting fogged up – so that I was riding with my visor up at motorway speeds. My I nor visor has done about 4500 mile as an absolute maximum and is about 5 months old – any tips as this is the first time I have had any misting problems with a Fog City in years of use?

Pinlock have consistantly been rated as the best anti fogging item. The fog city are good but once they go, they go quickly. Get it replaced with a pinlock, they are easy to fit and can be cleaned and removed when ever needed, especially if you use different visors

In a Qwest it should be a pin lock as standard. The problem with all of the new shoei lids is they have spent too much time making them air tight which makes them very prone to condensation which wrecks the pinlock insert. The solution is to keep am eye on the edges of thge visor not covered by the pinlock. When that gets really wet, open the vents until it clears then close the again. Removing the chin curtain also helps on the XR11. I’ve gone through 2 pinlock so far this year at about 15K miles for each

It is a pinlock – and I think the fog and mist was just too much for it but it was exceptionally foggy. It is holding up fine in more ordinary mist.

Rich – that was an excellent link – thanks for that.

As from Andrew, thanks, Rich for that link. I have used the Fog City Hyper Optiks in my Arai for several seasons now and swear by it. It was a bit fiddly to line up perfectly (and I didn’t get it absolutely spot-on)but the edge seal has held perfectly, I get no misting, and the light reactive properties have remained constant. It may not be perfect for everyone but it suits me, and my Arai, down to the ground.

    Ken Lines.
