Vote for law change

A new government run website has been launched that allows the public to suggest changes to the law
The website is designed to allow the general public to input their ideas into how laws should change and to comment on other submissions, to quote “identify anything which looks unnecessary, pointless, or just downright daft”. Some of the suggestions under the heading of motoring and motorcycling include:

Whilst i have read and agreed, in principle, with the points made above, there is another point which has long concerned me. Several times I have seen in print that a judge, in passing sentence, has used phrases such as ‘if you had lost control’, ‘if you had failed to take a bend you could have ……’, ‘your reckless driving could have resulted ….’. How are such observations valid – If the driver did not lose control, mount the kerb, hit innocent bystanders etc, etc, then none of the comments are valid. It seems to me that the judiciary allow their imaginations to run riot, attribute all sorts of imaginary possible consequences to a driver’s actions and then pass sentence as though the imaginary consequences were fact.
