International Motorcycle & Scooter Show – 27th Nov to 6th December
by Andrew on Oct.15, 2009, under Andrew Dalton, Shows
We won’t be at the Birmingham NEC International Motorcycle & Scooter Show this year, which is a pity and unexpected consequence of two major manufacturers pulling out. The show organisers will not allow our CCM prize bikes to go on show because they have to be especially careful that manufacturers don’t use ‘back door’ methods of getting current production models in to the show without paying exhibition fees. CCM haven’t asked us to do this.
The International Motorcycle & Scooter Show has it’s rules and we understand their position. If they bend the rules for us then they have to bend them for everyone.

Since your company has been exhibiting your CCM prize bikes at show after show it would have only taken a little reflection, by the organisers, to realise that there was no manufacturer involvement or pressure.

Thats a pity I was looking forward to meeting the team and collecting another winning number card to double my chances

Thanks Chaps. I do understand why the organisers had to do this. Honda franchised dealers could well have pointed out we were being treated differently to them, and we were only going to have a small stand. It’s a bit of disappointment but the NEC is a hard and long show for exhibitors. I may well be going as a member of the public anyway.

Could you not decorate your stand with large photos of your prize bikes, and/or previous lucky winners receiving theirs?
I gather the money-grabbing organisers make it an expensive show to attend, I know of a couple of other small exhibitors who’ve stopped attending on simple cost grounds.

The problem with doing this is that the artwork itself costs a few thousand quid and we would lose the use of our actual stand. Also I think people actually want to see bikes at a bike show. Your suggestion was also made by the NEC organisers. We would have been there, but for the bike ban, but we also cannot ignore the cost. This is especially so when we cannot show in our usual way.
I have to admit I am not especially sad about not doing the Show. It possibly goes on too long and whilst I would have loved to see the VFR1200 in the flesh, with Honda not showing I think numbers will be down.

What a shame you’re not going, I was going to take a trip up there this year to see you guys
Although, I agree with what you say, numbers will be down without (you!) and Honda!
